Kindness Taking a Stand

Anonymous meanness doesn’t seem to be too hard.

There’s no shortage of venomous comments, commentary, threads without named authors.

It’s easier to be nasty when we don’t have to face the human consequences.

So, I’ve got a little challenge for us: What if whenever we saw some anonymous meanness, we did some anonymous kindness? Or, to up the ante, what if we did some proactive anonymous kindness?

I know of folks who feed quarters into parking meters when they are about to expire. There are people who leave bags of returnable bottles out for someone who needs them. At a nearly empty coffeehouse, I saw someone pay for the coffee of whomever would come in after them.

These might seem like small acts. But they are defiant acts. They are kindness taking a stand in the world. And there’s nothing small about that.
